AVSECO Canine Unit (ACU)

News Updates

With the full backing of the Airport Authority Hong Kong and support of the Hong Kong Police Force and Customs & Excise Department, AVSECO is in the process of establishing a canine unit which will see an initial complement of 10 dogs being sourced for deployment at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). These canines who will be deployed together with professionally trained dog handlers will serve dual security and ambassadorial roles with the Unit offering a specialist capacity in explosives as well as firearms and ammunition detection.

Three dogs, including a Labrador Retriever and two Springer Spaniels, were imported by AVSECO from the Netherlands on 18 December 2020 and have been quick to settle into their new environment. Both dog handlers and the detection dogs will undergo a 12-week period of intensive training before commencing work and active deployment at the HKIA with effect from April 2021 onwards.
